"Good sound but headband is too tight for big heads" 2009-08-22

I've got an XL size head, and I find that this headphone clamps on my noggin painfully tight. The headband is made of a strong springy-steel metal strap wrapped with a thin layer of padding. Maybe it will fit small heads better.

The sound is good.

Sitting next to my computer's cooling fan, I can easily verify that the active noise-reduction does indeed work -- just turn the switch for the headphone power on and off, and there's a noticeable difference.

The headphones come with an adapter for airline seats.

It requires AAA batteries that are not included -- these fit into a finger-sized controller that is on the cord, not on the headset.

I purchased these when my JVC NC100 set was stolen, though neither comes anywhere close to a Bose NC headset, the Maxell actually outperform the JVC over-the-ear variety. The JVC had an unpleasant overly loud hiss from one side and lower output from the second... I would have returned them if they hadn't been stolen. The Maxell NC3 with the NC off gives a weak audio but not overly poor. With the NC on, the audio is bright and surprisingly good. The noise cancelling is far less than what is offered by Bose and other higher priced units, but for around $20 it's better than I expected. Sitting in the4 forward areas of an aircraft, the cancellation gives a pretty good ride, music from an MP3 player or movie player is very usable and volume levels are about half what would be needed without them. Still plenty of aircraft sound comes through but still better than without the noise cancelling. As you move toward the rear of the plane, the ambient sounds increase and though the phones still help, they're not fully up to the task and you'll have to crank up the audio a bit more than forward levels. I'd guess that overall 40-50% noise reduction is what you'll experience with these.

They work surprisingly well to reduce airconditionalr and fan noise in the office.

Comfort: While they're OK for two or three hours of use, you'll want to ice your ears after a 5 hour flight.

If you only fly occasionally and generally short flights and are very budget concious, these are for you. Longer Flights, Better Budget? Go for the more expensive offerings from Panasonic, Sony, Audio-Technica, JVC or if you're flush, go for the Bose- they really are amazing.

I like the Shure E2C earphones overall. But, in cold weather, the stiff plastic coating over the cord cracks. I take good care of them, and wear them according to instructions. Shure replaced them once for the same problem, but out of warranty and you're out of luck. It's a design flaw that Shure should fix. I'm not going to buy Shure again.

I have to agree with the positive reviews of these in-ear headphones. The sound is amazing! They look great, have an above average build quality and the included hard carrying case is perfect. The only small issue I have with them is having to wrap them around my ear for the "proper" fitting. I actually wrapping anything around the back of my ear. Although they can be worn "hanging" from the ear (just switch the left and right) it's still not that comfortable. They tend to fall out when worn in this manner especially when moving around.

This is the second pair of Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones I bought. After several years of use, I ruined the first set by inadvertently cutting the wire. These are nice headphones. Good sound, good fit, good build quality (nice heavy wire), AND good price. I particularly like the moldable foam earpieces (included) that once compressed, will form fit to your ear canal. I routinely use these when I am exercising....doing yard chores..etc. I have to say that when I'm cutting the grass for example, the earpieces just about cut out all of the mower noise. If I had to give any critique, it would maybe be that the bass may be a bit lacking at times, and an earpiece has cut-out once or twice during periods of increased exercise ..and I would assume because of sweat getting into the ear-piece.

The sound is very good and is almost comfortable. However, between me and my roommate, we have gone through 8 pairs of these (I bought one he bought 3 the rest warranty replacement) they all break. the wire over the ear cracks no matter what you do. they all fail within 12 months. shure has 2 year warranty so they'll send you a new one the first time it breaks but the second time you'll be out of warranty and they want you to buy a new one.

I would love to use shure but I am looking for a different brand now because I can't afford to spend >$100 on headphones every 10 months. if anyone has any recommendations drop in the comments. section.

I have been using these forever it seems and any other headphones don't really got the same kick I was looking for and mine have been used for almost 2 years with nothing wrong. Unless your really careless you should be able to keep these phones in shape and ready to go, I love that these sound so loud and yet the distortion is there but I'd rather it be loud then tiny and the comfort level is not as good but its not bad just decent and the fact they don't fold like the aiwa before is kinda dissapointing but all in all for the refurb price thier a steal you get loud sound ok comfort and decent noise canceling. So I recomend these for someone looking for some cans that are for the average music listener cause they'll be ok with it but the hardcore always try to find something wrong with it and it won't be good enough lol unless thier around 100$ thier not gonna be close to top notch so if your on the budget these are great to own and since i got some refurb one I can say they last for a long long time . : )

It's not a BOSE but I don't NEED to spend hundreds of dollars on a headset that can get lost, stolen, or broken on a plane flight for a little better sound quality. Too much else to be concerned about. It does the job of giving me pleasurable music, etc. and does a stand up job of filtering out unwanted noise especially when I am trying to sleep. They do start to feel uncomfortable on my ears after a couple of hours of use though. I just take a break from using or reposition them a bit. I was amazed the first time I used them because of the noise filtering effect now I won't travel without them...good value.

We got several pairs of MDR-NC6 at the company I work for. 75% broke in less than a year. The side where the battery is located had the most problems.

And yes, Sony's customer service doesn't care for these kinds of products, and they basically tell you that you need to buy another pair because they can't do anything about it, or you need to pay a lot for them to look at them.

What a waste of money; we need to buy more headphones but it is going to be a different brand.

One modification/improvement, that can be made for KOSS Porta Pro and address the issue with leaking sound to surroundings. Is to replace the foam ear cushion with a sealed ear cushion.

Other reported benefits are enhanced Sound performance! The Sennheiser PX200 leatherette closed ear cushions/ear pads have the right size 2" (55mm) and fits perfectly on KOSS Porta Pro.

The benefit in sound performance is reported to be: A tighter bass with some overall improvements and better details, together with increased sensitivity (can play louder). The sealed ear cushion will make Porta Pro, maybe not a fully closed headphone but more a "semi-closed" headphone (still the backside of elements/drivers have openings), but the sealed ear cushions will reduce the leaking sound to the surroundings (maybe appreciated for other people during example a bus ride). I purchased some Shure headphones for twice the price and they didn't have the bass that these under $50 headphones have. Currently I own three pairs of them.

If you are tired of buying cheaper headphones only to have them break after a few months, these are the headphones for you. They typically last me 6 to 9 months which is pretty good in my book. What usually breaks every time is the connection to one speaker. So I'm left with no speaker sound on one side.

With Koss, you just send them back along with $6 for shipping. Then you get a brand new pair back.

They are clunky looking, but they are super comfortable to wear.

The reason I have three pairs is that one broke so I bought another. When that one finally broke after a year, I bought yet another. Two pairs were sent back for fixing while I listened to the new pair. Now I have three new pairs.

I have let friends borrow them and they didn't want to give them back.

Before finding Koss headphones, I used to buy Sony headphones all the time. They would break (same no speaker on one side problem) after only three months. Then I'd have to throw them away. With Koss, I've received more than my money's worth.

I've had these wonderful phones for three months. I use them for my ipod classic. The sound is rich and full. Strong bass with no distortion, even at high levels. Listening to Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" makes the song sound like a dream. You can hear Stevie make sighs and sounds you don't hear on the cheap ipod earbuds.

And when you listen to Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick," it feels like you're sitting right next to John Bonham as he pounds on the drums.

It's unbelievable how good these phones are. When you listen to the Counting Crows' acoustic version of "Amiee," with its mandolin intro playing in the left ear, and rich acoustic guitar coming through on the right ear, you will have an eargasm, baby! It is an experience!

The Portapros are also, hands down, THE most comfortable headset I've ever worn. You can adjust them to fit tighter or more loosely around the ears, and the extra padding really helps with the comfort.

I should say that these are not noise cancelling or sound isolating. I can't wear them in bed at night because even with the volume 1/3rd up on the ipod, my wife can hear them. Same thing with riding the train or bus. You won't want to wear them in public, partly because they look like something worn on the set of the 1984 flick Tron, and partly because your neighbors won't want to listen to your music.

But if you care about excellent quality sound, and you are not disturbing anyone, these are THE best sounding headphones you can buy under [...]. They are a BIG step up from the so-so ipod earbuds and a bigger step up from anything Walmart sells.

You should also keep in mind that your Portapros will only sound as good as your source. MP3 files on your ipod are not going to sound as crisp and powerful as listening to a cd, unless you rip with the Apple Lossless version (it takes up more memory on your ipod, but it's worth it).

I should say that these sound better on MP3 players than they do on Hi-Fi equipment. I definitely prefer my beloved Grado SR125s for listening with my stereo or with my laptop.

But the Portapros are a steal at [...].

I almost forgot to mention that there is a lifetime warranty on the Portapros. If they accidently break, and you still have your receipt, Koss replaces them for free. Awesome!

These headphones are the best light-weight(and reasonably priced) headphones i've ever heard! I use to think that to get good sounding headphones under $50 you had to get around-ear or in-ear headphones but these prove otherwise. First of all, most on-ear phones lack in bass but these are extremely responsive. If you have ever heard of the song "Bass I Love You" by bassotronics,you know that only good headphones or subwoofers can pick the bass up in this song but these had no problem of doing that, and the overall sound quality sounds completely natural. The only flaw in these is that the adjustable head band pinches your hair, but the sound quality is so good i didn't knock off a star just for that.

"German Maestro 8.35D Headphones" 2009-12-01

These headphones rock! I did a lot of research on a lot of the higher end headphones such as K271 and these took the prize.

PROS:

The sound is very clear and crisp. The lows/mids/highs are very well balanced. The headphones feel very light on my head and I've been using them for long hours in my home studio. The bass sounds great, could feel it very well, the mid and highs are smooth to listen to, did I say how well balanced they are, lol. The price although a little high for your average headphone buyer, it is actually very low for how well these headphones perform. These headphones out perform headphones that cost 3X the amount as the German Maestro's do. Although the look of the headphones is not like many headphones, I actually like the old school/industrial type design. The HP's have a very strong feel to them and they don't feel like they will be falling apart in 2,3,4... years down the road as long as you take decent care of them. If your in the market for some real German made headphones and not some junk Chinese imitation headphones, then these in my opinion are a great buy.

The Scl2 are a great product and I recommend them to any musician seeking comfort and quality in thier headphones.

The Lows are just right, they are not blowing out your brains but they are also not to weak in where you are not able to hear the bass at all.

The highs are extremely clear and allow you to listen to exactly what is given out.

I'm really glad I bought this product.

The only con is the carry case is a bit small, but other than that the Scl2 is the best investment you can put into good quality affordable headphones.

I just got a Creative Labs MX MP3/video player. The stock headphones were horrible. So I deciced to try the SCL2 based on the reviews here. I can honestly say these work great! Wow, the sound blows the doors off the stock headphones.

The Good:

The large assortment of sleeves that come with it makes finding the best fit easy. The seal on these really keeps out the background noises. But you do have to get it right. It took me a while to pick out the right sleeve to fit my ear.

The mid and high response on these are excellent. I had tried some high end over the ear headphones ($200+), and I can say that the mids and highs on these are comparable. Not quite as good but definitely in the same league.

The Bad:

The complaints about the bass response has some merit. Don't get me wrong, the bass response is very good. For most music styles theres plenty of bass from the SCL2! It's way better than the stock headphones, and probably on par with many comparably priced headphones. If you aren't looking for lots of bass this won't matter to you. If you want some hip hop with loads of bass then find another headphone.

The only other gripe is that these are a bit of a pain to take in and out of your ear. I use these on the daily commute so this doesn't really matter. Not to mention I would probably have the same issue with any in-ear headphone! But I was trying to use them in the office. I'll be getting a set of over the ear headphones for the office.

Note that this is not an earphone for those rock fans who want nosebleed bass and don't much care about anything else. The Sony MDR-EX51 and EX71 are better for this and much less expensive. The SCL and older E series were designed as stage monitors to let musicians hear what is going out on the sound system and not just the drummer behind them. As a result, they emphasize accurate reproduction of the sound stream, not the creation of an artificially hyped up sound. The SCL-2 does not reproduce extreme bass or extreme treble but it is smooth and solid from something like 60 Hz to 12 KHz. Not that many CD's really go past this and MP3 encoding does not reproduce much beyond 12 Khz anyway. You need quality-6 Ogg/Vorbis or FLAC encoding to get the high frequencies and few portable players support these higher quality Codecs (Cowon has one of the few product lines which does). While certainly not "audiophile" equipment, the SCL-2 is probably as good as any phones I have heard in the $100 class (including full-sized headphones) and they are a good match for most better-quality portable players. They are in a different league entirely from the junk "earbuds" which come with them. They have excellent sound isolation which is wonderful for use on airplanes and around traffic. This allows you to listen at lower volume levels which is good for your ears.

The SCL-2 is designed to have the wires run over the tops of your ears and down behind them. This was probably to conceal the wire on stage but it works well for taking the weight of the wire off of the earpiece which allows it to stay in place better if you are active. It takes a little practice to figure out how to insert them. If you wear glasses, the wire can be abraded by the glasses frames, especially if they are metal. The wiring on my SCL-2 failed after about 18 months of very active use as a result of this. The wires (or the glasses frames) need to be coated or wrapped with something to protect them in this situation.

I replaced the SCL-2 with a pair of SCL-3 phones. These have extended frequency range in both bass and treble although they still do not cover extreme frequencies. They have a more open and transparent sound overall. They are better than the SCL-2 but whether they are $100 better will be a matter of opinion and depend on your equipment. They are too good for most portable players although they are well worth while with a Cowon U3 using Q6 Ogg/Vorbis encoding. They are designed to let the wire hang straight down or go over the ears. They don't stay in place as well with the straight fall of the wire but you do not have the glasses problem.

The Shure SCL2 earphones sound great. The trick is to choose the best fit from the multitude of included sleeves. They're pretty easy to change, so try a few and see which set gives you the best fit. I've been using the black rubber sleeves.

The other trick is to make sure they are inserted properly into your ear. I insert them and then twist them in so that the cord is at the top. This gives me excellent bass. If they are not inserted properly, you won't hear much bass. It takes a bit of practice, but once you know how to use them, you'll be happy with the results.

I've used them on a noisy airplane and found that they block out even crying babies - and this is at normal listening volume, not cranked all the way up. Of course, you won't be able to hear the flight attendants either, so be sure to remove at least one of them when you're trying to talk to someone.

As far as comfort goes, I've used them for a couple of hours at at time and, although I can certainly feel them after a while, I wouldn't call them uncomfortable. Still, it feels good to remove them for a while. I think this would be true of any earbuds - and most don't give you the selection of sleeves that this Shure model does.

The little round zippered case is nice too. You won't have room to carry all of the different sleeves, but the earbuds with the installed sleeves of your choice fit nicely and the stiffness of the case protects them from damage. I just wish the case was some other color instead of black. If you drop the case on the floor of an airliner, it's hard to find. This is the voice of experience speaking.

I've tried for a while to found a good pair of over-ear headphones and have been consistently disappointed. The bose triports however, were just what I was looking for. Above all, they are comfortable: really lightweight and soft on the ears which was a huge relief compared to some of the HEAVY pairs that I've used before. They feel pretty good even when worn for long periods at a time. The sound quality is flawless and the over-ear design seems to do a very good job of keeping out a lot of outside noise.

I have been using the Bose Triport headphones for several months. I carry them in a laptop bag every day between the office and home and use them heavily. It seems that some of the earlier reported quality issues have been fixed.

I have compared my Triport to some Sennheisers, and am pleased with the performance. The difference between many high quality headphones is a matter of preference. Each seems to focus on different sound qualities. The Sennheisers were a great set with strong lower frequency bass definition, but seemed to reshape some mid range sounds. The Triport maintains a great quality and clear definition throughout its full range.

The Bose Triport headphones are the most comfortable pair of headphones I have ever worn. They are light weight and fit comfortably around the ear. Maybe it's just the shape of my head, but I can wear these for hours without discomfort.

The Triport sounds good at low volume. You don't have to crank it up to get a full, pleasing sound. They also block out a lot of external noise so you don't have to turn up the volume to overpower other sounds.

I researched and over-analyzed before settling on the Bose Triport. I was a little nervous about my choice when I made the order, but now I am very pleased with my purchase.

I am not an audiophile - I do not have the precision hearing of a bat so I can echo-locate my breakfast. I know some folks are far more particular and can hear nuances in sound that are apparently not within my range of hearing. If you're like me - this review is for you.

Like shoes, it's hard to review something as a comfortable fit for everyone. I can only review something as being a comfy fit for me. Everyone's head and ears are designed differently. If you have a mammoth head or large ears, these may not fit you as well as they fit me. I'd recommend trying a pair on - they are sold at fine electronic stores and they usually have a pair you can try on and listen to.

First, I would try wearing them with no audio at all. Just stand there for 5 minutes with these things on. Do they bug you? If so, they're not for you.

Personally, I find the soft cups that pivot for the precise shape of my head to be very comfy. The cups envelope my ears without scrunching them - just surrounding them with the music or audio I want to listen to. The bass is deep - even with the volume cranked way up, I don't feel like either the treble or bass is cracking.

They're not as trendy looking as the miniscule ear buds everyone wears these days - but for complete solitude in listening to an audio book, mowing the lawn while listening to music, or just tuning out white noise while listing to something relaxing, these are nice.

My less than perfect rating is for the kinda cheesy-looking plastic and foamy headband. The headband is a magnet for dog hair (guess how I found that out?) and the plastic components just look cheap. It doesn't matter how good the sound is - when you spend this kind of money, it's nice to know you can enjoy looking at an item, too. This is why Sony & Apple do so well with their products - they work AND they are sexy to look at. These are just - eh. They're ok, but nothing to write home about in the appearance department. I know from their full-page print ads and infomercials that sound engineers and all kinds of research and rocket science goes into their audio equipment - but they seriously need to work with an award winning designer to come up with a better look. If they canned half their ad campaign and devoted some of that money to design, they could lower the price and these things would sell like hotcakes.

I've owned these headphones for about 6 months - and initially was quite happy with them. The extra long cord would get tangled on my desk when using my headphones at my PC - but the sound quality was quite good for the 15 bucks I paid for hte headphones.

After owning them - the build quality is fragile as glass. There is a design weakness near the earpieces that the head harness breaks quite easily. I just broke them in the 3rd separate point by placing them on my desk after using them. I've got super glue and tape all over these headphones - and the glue is holding fine - but the band itself keeps breaking in new points on both sides. Not from droping them, or rolling over them with a chair - but putting them on my head - and then placing them on a desk after use.

I look forward to replacing these - probably with a cordless Sennheiser set - but even for 15 bucks - I wouldn't buy these again. The quality of design / materials is a ( -5 stars ).

I bought these headphones for $20, and they were well worth it. The cups are large and very comfortable, and the sound is rich, full, and comparable to expensive audiophile cans.

However, they only lasted a little over two months before one of the cups went out. I kept in my bag, and they must have been bumped or squished. The durability may not be there, but if you take real good care of these headphones, they are a GEM!

Sound compares to the $199 range brands like AKG, Sony MDR series, but the cheap plastic frame has no hinges and cracks,then disentigrates after 1-2 months of use. Bad frame design, holds good cups, and comfortable. If you rarely use these (couple hours a week) they might last. For semi-pro use, buy the Sony MDR-V6?? series, they have steel hinges and sound good.

I got these headphones on Amazon after looking at similar headphones locally, all with higher price tags. I am happy with them. I sort of baby them and haven't used them much, so I don't know how much punishment they can take. The one feature that I found intriguing is the cord, which doesn't extend from the right side. Both the right and left signals come up a thin cord on the left side, a really thin cord which fans my fears of it breaking.

"Great sound... poor build quality!" 2009-01-26

I purchased a pair of these Bose Triport Around the Ear headphones, and used them very little (maybe 30 times). When I went to use them a few days ago, the plastic just above the Y swivel on the right side broke apart. This happened just picking them up and putting them on my head with normal force. Is this what you call a quality product? What do I do now? The $139.95 headphones are completely useless!

So, I contacted Bose Support and here's what they told me: "The date of purchase indicates that your Bose(R) Around-Ear headphones are no longer covered by the warranty. The headphones are not factory or user-serviceable. You may trade your Around-Ear headphones for a brand new set for $60".

Why would I invest any more cash into a product that obviously has a poor build quality. After searching the internet, I found many other people who had the same problem with these headphones. This has been going on for years and Bose has not corrected the problem!

So basically, Bose wants to charge me $60 (half the price of the headphones) for the flimsy plastic Y swival that connects the right side earpiece to the band? Must be worth a total of 50 cents! And I'll bet many people fall for this, right? What a marketing scheme! I've heard it said that Bose is all about marketing, not quality. Now I know first hand.

At least I know I'm one of the more intelligent buyers who will see it for what it is and take my business elsewhere!

When I bought these phones I thought they were awesome. The sound was rich and crisp. The problem is that they broke with very normal wear/tear in about two months. I wear headphones almost every day at work taking them on/off 4-5 times a day. Within two months I had snapped the cheap plastic band. I called Bose and talked to them about a design flaw and they told me it was my fault for being too rough with them. Now I don't have an extremely large head and I definitely was not rough with them (My 5 year old Sony pair held up fine). I would say pass and get anything else.

The get two stars because man when they weren't broken they sounded so good.

I am not an audiophile - I do not have the precision hearing of a bat so I can echo-locate my breakfast. I know some folks are far more particular and can hear nuances in sound that are apparently not within my range of hearing. If you're like me - this review is for you.

Like shoes, it's hard to review something as a comfortable fit for everyone. I can only review something as being a comfy fit for me. Everyone's head and ears are designed differently. If you have a mammoth head or large ears, these may not fit you as well as they fit me. I'd recommend trying a pair on - they are sold at fine electronic stores and they usually have a pair you can try on and listen to.

First, I would try wearing them with no audio at all. Just stand there for 5 minutes with these things on. Do they bug you? If so, they're not for you.

Personally, I find the soft cups that pivot for the precise shape of my head to be very comfy. The cups envelope my ears without scrunching them - just surrounding them with the music or audio I want to listen to. The bass is deep - even with the volume cranked way up, I don't feel like either the treble or bass is cracking.

They're not as trendy looking as the miniscule ear buds everyone wears these days - but for complete solitude in listening to an audio book, mowing the lawn while listening to music, or just tuning out white noise while listing to something relaxing, these are nice.

My less than perfect rating is for the kinda cheesy-looking plastic and foamy headband. The headband is a magnet for dog hair (guess how I found that out?) and the plastic components just look cheap. It doesn't matter how good the sound is - when you spend this kind of money, it's nice to know you can enjoy looking at an item, too. This is why Sony & Apple do so well with their products - they work AND they are sexy to look at. These are just - eh. They're ok, but nothing to write home about in the appearance department. I know from their full-page print ads and infomercials that sound engineers and all kinds of research and rocket science goes into their audio equipment - but they seriously need to work with an award winning designer to come up with a better look. If they canned half their ad campaign and devoted some of that money to design, they could lower the price and these things would sell like hotcakes.

These are pretty nice headphones. They don't actually look quite as nice as they do in the picture here, but they're pretty nice. The sound is really, really surprising. The bass is better than both the speakers I have hooked up to my computer, and the non-noise canceling headphones that I had on my desk already. The only other noise canceling headphones that I have tried are the Bose ones, which is way better, but also way more expensive, so I can't say too much about the cancellation. I haven't tried them yet on a plane or anything, but I thought that the noise cancellation was a little disappointing, but as I said, I'm not an expert on this - this might just be standard for headphones in this price range. They are very comfortable, though. Overall, I'd say I'm pretty pleased with the purchase - I'd say it was worth the money.

I purchased the "Plane Quiet Platinum" noise-canceling headphones several months ago and decided to an extensive field test before writing this review. I live in Costa Rica, and do a great deal of airline travel each year on business... Prior to purchasing this set, I did a good bit of research online, and then decided to purchase the "Plane Quiet Platinum." And, I am extremely happy with my decision... I have enjoyed countless hours of enjoyment with this set, and find the noise canceling component to be excellent. The sound quality is great... Traveling internationally typically, I wear them for long periods of time and find them to be very comfortable,indeed... The fit is very comfortable, and they fit over the ears making a great seal. They are sturdy, and come with a nice carrying case that is handy for travel. I have had them for about six months, and have yet to need to change batteries(most of my flights are 12 to 15 hours). Lastly, the vendor, Quiet Travel Sound & Gear, provided outstanding service, and were there when I had couple of questions...Great service, wonderful headphones, a winner!

"Not Satisfied" 2009-12-18

Man, is it ever unfortunate that some users give 5 star reviews for a horrible sounding product. This doesn't help other purchasers on Amazon. How anyone could give these earbuds 5 stars is beyond me. My other great sounding earbuds couldn't hold up to the use at the gym and the cord ended up getting damaged. I purchased these for use at the gym, due in part to their metal construction, seemingly durable cord, etc...hoping that they'd sound pretty good and last longer. Referring to the two users that gave these 5 stars, I bought these hoping they'd sound acceptable. I should have listened to the 3 star reviewer who summarized it well: "The lows are a bit overwhelming and mushy, the highs tinny and the mid-range seems non-existent." I'll add to this in my technical terms and say they simply sound like crap. IMO, no bass, no midrange, mushy and tinny. Horrible. I've had many sets of headphones...no changing of the ear gels or break in will make these earbuds sound good. The cheap earphones that came with my HP laptop sound WAY better than these do. If only they'd stay in my ears when I'm running on the treadmill. These "INTENSE Sound" earbuds are mislabeled...the only thing that is INTENSE is realizing I just wasted my money. Not recommended. 2 stars for the seemingly durable/quality construction.

"Sound is not as expected" 2009-12-09

Pros - The fit is great and the noise reduction is great, not 100% but much better then many other ear buds I have used over the years. The buds are metal and the wire is nylon wrapped so I have no doubt that they are durable. They are very stylish and much more comfortable to wear for extended periods.

Cons - The packaging was undamaged, but whomever placed the ear buds into the packaging seems to have been bent on kinking the wires beyond straightening while shoving them in the plastic packaging. This fact may be why the sound quality is not what I expected, but since they play at all, I doubt this is the case. The lows are a bit overwhelming and mushy, the highs tinny and the mid-range seems non-existent. Details in music seems lost due to the booming lows and for a minute I thought these may not even allow output in stereo. I played MP3's ripped at 320 kbps through my Zune HD and switched between these earbuds, the included buds from Microsoft, and some premium HP buds that came with a studio edition laptop and by far the ear buds from HP sound the best. I have heard that some ear-buds need a "breaking in" period so I will update if I notice a change.

Nit-picky/unique situation - Since I have a Zune HD (save the Microsoft jokes please) I occasionally use the HD radio tuner. The Zune uses the wire from the headphones an as antenna and I think that maybe the nylon covering on these headphones prevent them from being a useful antenna unless I am touching it with bear skin. Not a deal breaker, just some extra information for people that may use the radio feature a lot.

Overall, I have to take some stars away right now because lets face it, the main use of earbuds or headphones is for the sound quality and I feel that these do not meet my expectations. The price isn't bad, but since they are in a price range that is a level or two above disposable, I expected a little better.

SOUND:

The levels on this pair of headphones is pretty good. The most noticable being the treble and bass. This may be something caused by the design and shape of the mold.

AIR HOLE DESIGN-

There is a hole in the back of the metal casing, i assume so that the air can come out. This is cool because my subwoofer on my home stereo system has this air hole. I haven't seen a pair of headphones with this design before.

METAL CASING-

These earbuds are metal. I know that for speakers, the casing matters a lot... I think wood and fiberglass are good, but I didn't know metal would be good. It also makes me thing that they are hard to break... which is kind of cool.

LOUDNESS- They could be louder, but I LIKE IT LOUD!!! Anyone other than me would prbably say their ears hurt if they put their ipod on full blast. Compared to some sennheiser and bose i have... these come under the mark... but I'd never put bose or sennheiser through what i do to these. For the price.. I'd say you are getting more per $ with these, but an expensive set is always nice for audio indulgence, especially if you are REALLY into music and want to hear it at its best quality.

Noise Isolation- not 100%, but maybe 80%. Great for focusing on a project or working out... haha or cutting the noise from an annoying roomate or co-worker.... or significant other, hahaha

THE FIT:

SILICON EAR GELS-

They give you 3 sets... I'm assuming SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE. They are black to match the earbuds, but I kind of wish they were clear silicon. The small ones fit the best for me because they go far in ear and cut down the outside noise(not noise cancelling). The small ones are also noticabley good for working out because they stay in my ear when i'm running. ALSO, plastic earbuds hurt the cartlidge in my ear... kind of like i layed on my ear the wrong way... i hate that, but these silicon gels are perfect.

Nylon Cord-

This is a good idea. I have to think these are made for someone who works out a lot because they nylon will resist sweat. It also seems like you can't tear the cord easily. For these, the cord starts pretty thick with nylon at the 3.5mm connector, and then when it breaks into 2 separate cords, the nylon is smaller. I wiosh the nylon was thick whent he cord breaks into two, but maybe thats just me wanting them to be mega durable. The cord is the right length. I can have my iPod in my pocket and the buds don't yank out of my ear like some cheapy philips ones i had.

Durability:

These are durable. Metal casing... nylon cord... and the audio jack is pretty strong. It's made of metal and plastic. worksmanship seems to be pretty good. My sweat has not caused these thing to malfunction yet, which is what happened to my ipod pair. I guess the sweat leaks into the electrical compponents and shorts them or something. The silicon ear gels are pretty strong. If they ever wear out i always have 2 other pairs. I wonder if they have a place to roder more silicons.

Appearance:

I guess these could be for guys or girls. They are black. I like how there is a theme of metal and black with the earbuds, audio jack, and nylon cord. It all goes together well.

SUMMARY:

This pair of headphones is great for someone looking to get a good price good sounding heaphones. I RECOMMEND FOR WORKING OUT!! You deinfinitely get your money's worth. This is a great pair of earbuds for everyday use, and it seems like the design will hold for a while. I'm going to be taking these with me to Brazil because if I lose them, they'll be easy to replace... and the sound quality will definitely keep me satisfied while away from my BOSE. The package says 3 year warranty.

"MONITORING OVERSTATED - UNCOMFORTABLE HEADPHONES" 2009-03-12

It's no wonder Panasonic does not define what it means by "Single-side Monitoring" or "Free-Style Monitoring". I bought these headphones thinking that the multiple swivels would allow me to swing one ear phone out of the way so I could WEAR the headphones and hear what was going on in the room while I listened to the TV through my receiver.

But THE HEADPHONE SWIVELS JUST DON'T CUT IT. The horizontal swivel allows an earphone to swing up and in but you can't wear the headphone that way. The horizontal swivels do NOT permit any outward swivel at all. So you have to grab the earphones and stretch them apart, fighting against the springy headband, to put the headphones on your head. The vertical swivels allow an earphone to SWIVEL A MAXIMUM OF 90 DEGREES so it it useless.

The Panasonic website states that these headphones have "Free-Style Monitoring". The packaging mentions only "Single-Side Monitoring" and shows someone holding one earphone against one ear while the rest of the headphone flops in the breeze. BIG DEAL. All of my headphones will do that.

For all of the swivels and alleged monitoring abilities, THESE HEADPHONES ARE THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE HEADPHONES I have tried, and that includes full size sound insulating and sound passing Koss', and lighter portable Koss, Panasonic and Sony.

The sound quality is mediocre. Stereo separation is good; bass is fair but highs are a little muffled compared to other good inexpensive headphones, such as Koss UR-29.

And all the swivels and alleged monitoring does absolutely nothing for the comfort or usability of these headphones

These are the first pair of noise cancelling headphones I've ever bought/used, so I have nothing to compare them to except my previous regular headphones.

First of all, I love the fact that it folds away into a nice compact size, which fits into the nice leather-looking pouch provided with it. They are powered by a single AAA battery.

The headphones rest on the ears (not over), and are rather comfortable. I bought mine just a day before a 10 hour flight, so I really got to test them. I fell asleep with them on with no discomfort or damage to the headphones. It also comes with a 2 pin adaptor for use on some aircraft in-flight entertainment (such as the 767 flight I took).

Sound quality to me is great, it brings out the bass, and the sound is crisp and clear, when noise cancelling is on, mind you. With it off, the volume is rather low. As for the noise cancelling itself, I would say it cuts off about 75% of the rumble of the jet engine, as well as most or all conversations going on around you (depending on the volume of the conversation). I was glad that most of the sound from a shrieking baby sitting in the row in front of me was mercifully cut off allowing me to listen to my music in bliss...

From all the negative reviews I have read about the material-durability of Bose Quiet Comfort 2, I am glad I purchased the MDR-NC5. Who wants headphones that are going to disintegrate on you? The MDR-NC5 headphones deliver excellent sound when plugged into the iPod. I have had mine for 3 years with no complaints, especially when it comes to sound materials. And they fold away for your convenience. For the money, these last longer and won't disappoint.

These headphones are a lifesaver for life in a noisy office. All the constant chatter was driving me nuts till I got these inexpensive Sony headphones. The noise canceling function works great, sometimes I don't play music and just keep on the noise-canceling feature on just to smother out the office yammering. The noise canceling does function best when you have on music AND noise canceling on.

As some of the other reviewers have complained the headphones do really press hard on your ears, like a vice grip, but they do get more loose in a couple of weeks.

I thought the sound quality was adequate, you cannot compare these $23.00 headphones with the Bose noise canceling headphones that sell for hundreds of dollars. You get what you pay for and these are great headphones for the price.

I will keep this brief. Pros: ligthweight (4.1 ozs), earcups fold flat, balance sound (low,mids,highs), nice protective hard case. Cons: The cord; it is very thin and short (about 42 inches in length). The plug at the end looks and feels cheap. Just go easy on the cord, and I think there won't be any problems.

My partner has a JVC headphones they used years ago as a professional DJ. I love them, but since they aren't mine tried these. They are good for the price, only complaint is that you can hear too much sound from the room. But they convey fantastic stereo sound that is great for listening, but wouldn't try to mix with them.

First of all, the shipping on this was lightening fast. I think I received them before Amazon even processed them (probably 2 days). The bag that they come in is not very flattering and made me think I wasted my money. Then I opened them and realized that I needed to go to the smaller earbuds...which made me think I had made the wrong decision again. They are not very easy to change. I don't have small or big hands, but they were difficult to change out...Once I got the new buds on, I put some music on and the sounds quality was excellent. I liked the smaller buds too because they actually stayed in my ear. I thought it was going to fall out, but then realized they were fairly stuck in my ear, which I like a lot because earbuds typically fall out of my ears...Overall, definitely worth the price so far (used once).

Great sounding earphones, i wouldn't trade the sounds it produces to any other that i've purchased in the past, and for the price unbeatable. In the past i've always maintained that it's impossible to reproduce good music to my satisfaction with any earbuds, but this pair surely changed that belief. Now i won't have to miss my excellent headphones when i travel. So in short, i say "highly recommended!"...BUT warning these earbuds are of fragile construction and MUST be handled with care...when i first received the item; from out of the package one of the ear pieces came apart in two, kept together only by a dangling speaker wire. So, i had to glue the pieces together. Now i've had it for over a month, now the other piece came apart just like the first during a recent trip...now both ear pieces have glue, where when i never have expected to do handy work to keep the pieces intact, oh well. HOWEVER even with the warning don't be dissuaded, the excellent sound is worth the trouble. Maybe the word "ELITE" meant handle with care.

The sound quality is outstanding - very clear mids, highs, and they have exceptional bass response (unlike most earbuds it seems). For the price, the sound quality is pretty impressive. I've tried significantly more expensive buds that don't sound any better. Their construction is very good quality; they are made very well and so far have been quite durable. There are 3 sizes of ear cushions included which is great because this type of earphone sounds best when they fit right, plus they stay in like they should. You will not be at all disappointed with these and I will buy them again if anything happens to these. BTW, they arrive very fast.

These ear buds are very comfortable with the foam tips or the triple flang. The grey rubber tips I don't care for that but. Overall, excellent noice cancelling though. I use these when flying in a military helicopter and the drown out the sound just as much as regular ear plugs. The music can be low volume and yet be very effective. Highly recommended.

I'm into music and I own alot of high end headphones. What I like about this IEM is that it produces well balanced sound. I can say that the bass is tight not boomy, which is good because it doesn't hurt my ears. Best thing about this IEM is clarity. you can hear even the slightest slide of the hand and breathing from the singer. you can hear all the instruments in the music with gread audio separation and superb sound stage. I guess its from the balanced armateur driver which is known to produce best sound.

I bought these to replace my Shure E2c's, whose cable is unraveling because I squished the cable while closing my laptop a few times. They were great, fit well, sounded excellent.

These are supposedly better. But head to head, these sound muffled. And the ability for the chords to go over the ears or straight down means they do neither well.

Also, the disconnect just after the two earphones attach is just annoying as I usually run these over my ears and down the back of my shirt while working out. They get yanked out far easier than the E2c's.

Overall, very disappointed.

While thes have a little less bass than the dynamic driven se115, they have a smoother sound, I found them extremely pleasing, but was finally not able to overlook the slightly anemic bass. On many osngs you won't notice it, but my music taste is wide, and overall, they weren't quite for me. I still think shure has done a fine job, many will love the sound signature. If the bass had just a little more weight, they would be the best iem in the under 150 price range. At least to my ears. In fact, I thought they sounded smoother than the se420. My personal opinion on the shure line is the se530 are easily the best, while the se115 and se 210 are the best values, depending on your preferences in the bass dept.

I bought these about 6 months ago, and for the most part they worked fine. Sound quality was quite decent, although I could never get comfortable wearing them, despite trying nearly all available Shure earbuds (other than those that are molded specifically for your ear canal.) After a couple of months the rubber outer casing fell off, and after another month the cable at the base of the mini jack cracked. Now the buds I wore started falling apart, and when I tried to replace them the tube that you fit them on broke off, rendering the whole set unusable. For a pair of earbuds that cost me over $250 (at the Apple store) I expect MUCH higher quality. Stay away from this product.

"Too Expensive An Investment For Such Poor Manufacturing Quality" 2009-12-11

I wish I could give these cans a glowing review but after being burned twice due to poor manufacturing quality I must now warn consumers against making a $300 investment in these.

The first pair I bought was a year ago and I LOVED them from the first note I heard. I had never owned a pair of high end headphones so this was quite an upgrade for me. I was having a blast hearing my music library in a totally different way. This all changed about 2-3 months in as the screws which secure the earphones to the headbands started to get loose. With no way of securing them (you can't screw them back in) they eventually started to fall out. Little by little the headphones began to fall apart until they were no longer usable. I called Monster support up and they agreed to send me a new pair as long as I sent the broken pair to them (at my cost). Awesome! Well not so much...

About 3-4 months later I took off the headphones after using them and noticed the headband had a crack right in the middle of it! Not only were my headphones no longer stylish but they were no longer stable. I tried to work through the problem until one day I went to put them on after having them around my neck only to find that the left ear cushion was missing! More than a handful of times I have had an ear cushion fall off and I'd have to snap them back in but losing them makes the headphones completely useless, both for comfort and sound reasons.

I called Monster back and they told me they could not replace them again for free but I take advantage of their out of warranty program and get a new pair for $150. Gee let me think...I already coughed up $300 on these - should I put another $150 into this product that has already failed me twice? Of course the answer was no. While the cans are nice when they work I just couldn't put more money into something that I knew would break. Additionally, it was a hassle having to replace the batteries every few weeks (or have them run out of juice on you in the middle of the day while outside).

Therefore, I would have to recommend consumers shopping for headphones look elsewhere. In the meantime I will be looking for reliable/well crafted replacement.

PS The cord would always wear away at the ends, too.

"Overpriced and Overhyped" 2009-12-10

I used these headphones for a month...why only a month? One of the earphones shorted out.

Overall, these are nice CONSUMER headphones, that are comfortable, attractive, and sharp looking.

The reason for the 2-Star review; they are also WAY overpriced, and they also color the sound significantly. There are plenty of headphones with better build and sound quality in the $100 range, and in my opinion, these headphones don't have anything worth spending this much on.

Lastly: I DO NOT recommend these for professional audio or DJing. They sound good as consumer headphones, however, they "hype" the bass and treble significantly and do not represent the source material accurately enough for professional audio. Secondly, the build quality is fine for day to day and home use, but they are not sturdy enough for DJing, being in a club, pulling on and off your ears.

Sorry Monster, overpriced and overrated.

I'll start out by saying that I rely on reviews when I'm interested in buying something. I've read MANY reviews on these cans so I decided to go to the Apple store to check them out for myself. I REALLY wanted to like these Beats by Dre but I must say they are not what I expected. I listened to them on an IPod classic with the EQ set to "off" at first. The bass was adequate, the midrange was muddy and the highs were barely there. I then switched the EQ to jazz, treble boost and every other setting I could think of to make them sound better.........no dice. When I tried bass boost the bass became let's say..... uncontrolled which was TOTALLY unexpected. I listened to artists such as Ryan Leslie, John Mayer, Elvis Presley and The Fugees to name a few. I won't go as far to say that these Beats were BAD I'd just say they were OK for the price. Now, I hate to say this but if I were to spend close to $300.00 for a set of headphones I'd get the Bose QC 15. I compared these two at the same time and I have to say that for the money........ the Bose sounded like they were worth the money by far. These Beats by Dre should be priced at $150.00 at best. I feel disappointed because I really wanted these cans.

Let me start out by saying I'm a professional DJ and producer, and over the years have amassed numerous headphones, from 500 dollar Shure in canals, to Technics, Sony's, and Sennheisers.

These Beats by Dre simply don't make the cut. The sound quality is subpar at best, they sound a little muffed, and don't produce nearly the quality you'd expect. They do have a nice sturdy built, and an attractive design, but don't let that fool you. For 300 dollars you can go way better. Check Sony's MDR700s, for less than half the price you will have much warmer, more true sound than these will ever be able to deliver.

I would pass on these, if you don't trust me go to your local best buy and hear them yourself.

I got these because the free ones that came with my ipod finally busted, and they hurt my ears anyway. These felt uncomfortable for the first week, but after they adjusted to my ears they were great. My only complaint is that they fall out a little easily, but who cares since they're pretty much the only headphones I've found in a long time that don't hurt my ears.

this is a great product. i've had trouble finding a nice pair of headphones and this is by far the best even though i'm not used to these types of earphones. it stays up in your ears without a problem and seriously blocks out noise. the only minor defect with it is that i can't chew and listen to music because the inside noise somehow interferes- weird isn't it? you can hear your breathing as well. other than that, i highly recommend it!

Product is not as advertised, i.e. earbuds for small ears. Came w/ 2 earpieces, both the same size, neither of which fit into my small ears. Both too big and uncomfortable. They fall out every time I turn my head. They are not adaptable, as they claim to be. Sound is adequate, not great.

If you're looking for an extremely inexpensive set, these will do the trick.

I purchased these headphones because I keep loosing/misplacing my apple set that came with the iphone. I ordered a couple and figured I could loose a few and still come out on top vs. ordering a $30 apple set and loosing it in a week or so. The result...I have learned to take better care of my apple set and will not plan to purchase these in 'bulk' again.

Pluses:

-They produce sound! A little tinny, light bass but I have heard worse

Cons:

-not very comfortable, plastic molding was not fully polished around the bud

-too lightweight--frequently fell out of my ears

I have to say I am not disappointed, I mean if you are look for SotA headphones with magic noise canceling and comfort then no these are for you. The downsides would be comfort, if you have these babies in your ear for awhile they will really sting. If you are looking for some high quality lower end headphones while you are raising money for the behemoth badarse models this is way to go.

I have tiny tiny ears so i was a little worried after reading some of the reviews. It was needless. The earbuds are plastic but they're fine if you're not running, (i have other headphones for that) as for normal wear they serve the purpose. Sound quality isn't great, but again it serves the purpose, and nothing is really lost. Great buy for the cheap price.

Product: 5 stars (if it is the redesigned). But 1 star because you can get this item for free, so why selling it?

My husband bought the Bose In-Ear Headphones less than a year ago. Though he looooves the brilliant sound of the music, he had many troubles with the silicon tips, which fall too often. Since he is a daddy of a 2 y.o. that also loves music, you can imagine how soon he lost the silicon tips included in his purchase. He even considered to glue them, as my mother actually did (successfully, as she told me), but all his pairs were already unmatched. Looking for those on Amazon site I came across with a great advise from another reviewer (in similar product), who warned on not to buy the silicon tips, because on its website Bose was sending replacements for free. He did not include the link and it was not easy to find it, but I actually found it and he was right.

Bose acknowledged the poor design of these silicone tips, that's why they are correcting their mistake (if everyone do that...!). So, they do send a "Complete set of silicone ear tips (S, M and L)", well redesigned (apparently with a feature that impede the tips from falling) and by means of a free UPS 3 or 5-day delivery. Even provide a tracking number so you can trace the package. I must say that the items are well packaged.

You can also register for a free "Stability enhancement accessory", as I did. My husband is very happy with his new absolutely-free accessories, and enjoying the improved features of these little things. And so is my mom: I also ordered the two items for her as well. Bose's website says that they reserve the right to limit the quantities, but as far as I am concerned, I placed two orders without a problem, the two of them for both items.

There is no deep bass and the volume must be set for kiddie cuz I have to turn the volume all the way up to even begin to get into my jam zone. Maybe you are thinking "WTH did she expect for $10?" I purchased some Colby headphones for 5.00 more that had twice as much volume and decent bass--I just kept losing those soft headphone covers and thought I would try these...oh well...it's not the first time I wasted 10.00. On the plus side, Accessory Genie got them to me in Brooklyn, NY in a few days, with no upgrade on the shipping, properly packaged. I would order from them again.

Wow, these are nice. I've had low end and hi end headphones in my life. These rank among the best. I had read a review of them in Stereophile Magazine.

I received mine yesterday and was blown away. It has a 1/8" plug , so you'll need to get an adaptor if you want to plug into a 1/4 " input. I was surprised about the small headphone line - it's really skinny and flimsy looking . But- I actually like it because it's not so bulky and in the way - especially when I'm listening to my Ipod. It's a beauty- love the red !

Wonderful sound and the best detail I've heard anywhere near this price. The "fit and finish" is that of an expensive product. A premium product at a very moderate price.

Some people might prefer more bass for music like hip hop. But I find the bass is full and accurate. I listen to many types of music and I would find added bass artificial. I'm not implying that bass is lacking in this model - just that some headphones intentionally boost bass. If that's your thing, there may be better headphones for you.

Note that the 300 sits on the ear. I believe the 350 covers the ear. Phiaton does a poor job of explaining the differences between models.

"Didn't stand up to my workout abuse" 2009-08-31

I've tried and killed dozens of head phones. I go running or skating daily, hit weights 4 days a week, and use

around the yard, etc. I abuse them quite a bit through sweat, stuffing in my pocket, getting tangled, getting caught on stuff and yanked out of my ears or player.

A couple things went wrong with these.

1) I noticed right away that the bass seemed heavier in the left ear piece. I know that a nice equal fit is needed for proper bass, but I don't think that was the issue. There's bass ports on the back of the ear phones and if you cover them with your finger you can notice a difference in bass and mids. If I cover the one with weak base (right), I notice very little difference and when I cover the left one there's a definite drop in base quality -- pretty much matching the right ears normal bass level. So it seems like there's something wrong with the driver/port in the right ear piece.

2) After a few weeks I discovered that the little disc of black fibrous paper that's glued over the

sound tube hole was coming off. This tube gets further covered by the the interchangeable rubber ear pieces, but leaving

the paper off would open the tube to wax or hair getting inside. So I just used a tiny bit of super glue around the rim of the cover to adhere it back in place and it held up fine for the next couple months.

3) The plug end started shorting out. This is probably due to me occasionally snagging the wires on things and yanking the plug. I've had many head phone plugs go out on me, but some other brands have stood the test of time as well. I actually soldered on a new plug from an older pair.

4) One of the behind the ear plastic pieces started falling apart, the sharp metal inside started cut through the plastic sheath and started poking right out of it and into the side my ear. Again probably due to my abuse. So I took off the behind the ear piece and they actually stay in my ear fairly well still.

I would like to recommend these to people who don't abuse them as much as me but the fact that I noticed

a bass difference in the right ear from day 1 makes me hesitant to suggest them.

I got these because my earphones always fall out when i do anything, not just while running on the treadmill at the gym. However, the over-the-ear holder thingie was too big for my ear and basically did nothing to hold the earphone in. Also, the earphone was too big for my ear and kept coming out. I guess i would prefer the more disk-shaped earphones as they stay in place better.

The main reason these didn't work for me is because i have super small ears. Im still looking for some good ones that will stay in place. As for these, which came red not pink, i gave them to my brother who ended up yanking off the holder thingie. I guess its on to the next ones for me.

I just received my earbuds yesterday. The sound is good. They seem to be well made. I must be a freak, because my ear canals are different sizes. I can use the smallest silicone cover for one ear and the large for the other. The difference between the earbud sizes is slight, but noticable. If you have really large ear canals these may be too small, even w/ the largest ear buds on. They also seem to stay securely in my ears during activity....which is the point. So far, I love them.

First, the shipping was rocken! Ordered on Thurs and got them 2 days later.

I really loved my Sound-Squared "Juliet" ear phones <3 until they recently stopped working. I would have gotten another pair of those but can't find them. Anyway, the "SPORT" earphones just aren't really working for me. The ear phones don't stay inside my ears and I'm constantly shoving them back in every 60 seconds while I run (although they don't fall off and yes I've tried the different sizes). Without a snug fit, the bass sucks, I can hear people talking around me and I might as well have kept those crappy ones I returned from Target (ok not really).

These may work better with larger ears? I am always looking for sport earphones specifically made for women who have smaller ears so if you know of any that aren't astronomically priced, shoot it my way! I like Sound-Squared tho so I'm giving these 3 stars and checking out the "Bass Star" or "SoundXTC" models.

I bought these because I was fed up with having to adjust my earbuds every minute or so when running. In that respect, these "Sport" earbuds are great- not once have they come loose. Whether I'm lifting weights, out running, or even biking in the wind, these buds just stay in.

As far as the sound goes, it's okay. Certainly better than stock buds, but you can tell there's a deficiency in the sound quality. As compared to my Sony MDR-EX75 earbuds, these have tinny highs and the bass isn't as rich.

Once ancillary point: the buds arrived from Sound-Squared (the manufacturer I assume) without a box or product guide. They were simply sealed in an airtight bladder and encased in bubble wrap. Definitely safe for shipping, but it felt a little unpolished. I suppose I should be happy, because the packaging uses few materials and is likely to be very environmentally friendly.

The sound from these earphones is excellent for the price. I like the design and how it loops over the ear. Virtually no cable noise, which is a big problem with my apple in ear headphones. They aren't as comfortable as my JVC air cushion earphones, but these do sound better. After trying out one pair, I ordered a second for spare.

I do enjoy the headphones. I thought they were pretty reasonable. They came with 3 different ear pieces so you can change to your fit. Also came with a small hard case to keep them in. The reason I gave them 4 stars is because you have to put earphone wire around your ears to keep them in place. If you can get past that, great pair of ear phones-sounds is great and great noise reduction!

The Ear buds have a very good clean sound has good base very clear mids and highs. The comfort is very good I Work a 10 hour shift and they are always in my ear even at lunch I get no ear fatigue or discomfort but to get this result you have to loop them over your ear and have that cord extension they use to stick out the top of your shirt and only then will they stay put where they belong. I Roller blade with them Bike Ect My job is a warehouse job that is very active and I have had no problems of them coming out and they sound great but you do have to wear them properly and get the right sized sleeve to achieve this I perfer the silcone ones more durable and hygenic. Note make sure to keep your ears clean and occasionaly remove any wax that accumaltes in the sleeve or you will plug your earbuds up. Fortunatley I don't have waxy ears If you do you might have problems or a bit higher maintence I only check mine once or twice a month. My only complaint is the short cord and the need for an adaptor thus the reason for sticking the fat connections out the top of your shirt to avoid the pulling of the cord because of this extra weight. The sound isolating is perfect the only way to get my attention is to be in front of me or your completly gone to my ears including my very noisy work enviroment. I watch a cowon A3 mp3/Pmp player and the videos sound great just like my music and half of my collection is 126mps to 192mps and it sounds just like a CD with these earbuds. I've had these since December 15, 2009 and the quality is great no wires breaking down or shorts yet I keep them in the case when I transport and as mentioned I am very active.

I would recommend these to any one wether an audiophile like myself or just want a good comfortable earbud that blocks out sound like a pair of earplugs.

This was my third pair of Shure headphones in three years. As much as I like the sound quality and the noise isolation they provide, I have to find a more reliable product. The Shures wear out very quickly. This time the right earphone stopped working in the middle of a workout. The other two developed a short in the wiring behind the earphone. I got lucky a couple of times when the short occurred in the extension piece that was only $30 to replace and I did not have to buy a whole new set. When these headphones work, the sound quality is great. But they don't work for long and, apart from the extension wires, they are not inexpensive to replace. All total, in three years I have spent almost $800 on Shure Earphones, but have finally decided to kick the habit.

I travel frequently and often on very long flights. I repeatedly tried various noise-canceling headphones loaned to me by coworkers. However, I could only ever wear them an hour at a time. Even though they reduced the audible noise, there was still amplitude pounding on my eardrums from both the engines and the noise canceling at a ninety degree shift. This drained me of energy and started to give me an earache over time. To make matters worse, they were big and bulky not allowing me to sleep in them. Then I purchased these earphones. First I tried them at home and was blown away by the quality of audio coming from such a small system. They sounded great on my iPhone. But I then wondered what they would sound like with uncompressed audio straight from the CD. Outstanding! I mean truly impressive. Now comes the flight. The plug part of the earphone cut out more noise than the noise canceling ones could ever hope to do. With this added benefit, I only needed to have the volume on my iPhone set at less than 1/4 volume. Anything higher was too loud. This also resulted in a longer battery life as the iPhone's battery wasn't having to push a large magnet. Even when I wasn't listening to music or watching a video, I left the earphones in as ear plugs. They are simply so comfortable I was able to travel on a 15 hour flight without ever having a need to remove them from my ears. It even felt comfortable sleeping with my ear against the pillow! This product has simply made my travel a lot more tolerable. I recommend this product to anyone that travels on commercial jets. Audiophiles or the general public. Everyone should purchase these over the noise canceling ones.

Let me first say this is my 3rd set of Shure headphones. I started with the E2c's (shorted out), moved on to the E3c's (broke them - my bad), and then turned in AmEx points for a set of SE310's. As you move up the line, the sound quality improves from very good to simply amazing. If you want to really hear the music, these have to be your first choice.

With these headphones, you will hear things in your favorite tracks that you didn't know were there. The problem is, you can also tell when a recording is ripped poorly. The need for better quality will definitely cost hard drive space on the iPod. I would suggest Audio CD Ripper by Media Twins Software set at 256-bit.

What you won't hear is anything else. With these headphones in, you will be stone deaf to the world. You won't hear the lawnmower, your co-workers, or the kid in the row behind you screaming his head off. You simply won't care. These are critical kit for my fellow road warriors.

I'm sure Bose makes nice headphones, but they're huge. The case for these is about the size of a hockey puck - fits great into limited briefcase space. Plus, as an added bonus, most flight attendants don't notice them, so you could (hypothetically, of course) listen to uninterrupted music from the time you get through security to your arrival at the rental car counter. Makes any trip more enjoyable.

I would unequivocally recommend these headphones. No, they're not cheap, but they're less expensive than other other types that don't sound as good or block out as much of the world. And Shure's customer service is absolutely first rate.

"Thoughtless design and disappointing sound" 2009-03-29

These earphones have a very serious design flaw. The earphone wires are a little over a foot long and feed into a piece of plastic with a male jack on the other end. You could plug this jack directly into your mp3 player, but because the wires are so short, this only works if you put the mp3 player in your shirt pocket. (Even then the cord is so short that I can't comfortably turn my head 90 degrees when I have the player in my shirt pocket.) Shure also provides an extender cable. But you have to plug the jack, which remember is attached to a piece of plastic, to another piece of plastic at one end of the extender cable. Well, when they are connected these two pieces of plastic are heavy! Unless you hold on to them, they tug on the earphone wires in a really annoying way and restrict your head mobility. It is really annoying to walk while using the extender cable, and you can forget about running.

My other complaint is the sound. They sound good, don't get me wrong, but they only sound marginally better than my previous headphones, which cost around $70. These list at $250 and cost me $150 -- I would have expected a serious improvement in sound quality.

I strongly recommend that you avoid these headphones if you ever plan to use them while walking or running.

I purchased a pair of these for my nephew in July 2009. They worked perfectly and my son really liked them for the sound and fit and I loved them for the price as he has lost a few pairs. A few days ago (12/09) the left ear bud stopped working. I went on Amazon to purchase another pair and noticed someone left a review stating they contacted JLab and received a replacement pair, albeiut in their case after a few month delay in the initial e-mail to customer service. I thought an e-mail was worth a try so I sent an e-mail on Sunday December 6, 2009. Less than 12 hours later I received a response "JLab stands behind its products 100%. I believe that your unit may simply be an isolated less than perfect unit, and therefore covered under our full one year warranty."

They asked for my Amazon order number and my mailing address and indicated a new pair would be sent out. While I do not have the new pair yet, the 12 hour response was amazing to me and demonstrates great customer service.

I am very impressed so far and will update thius once the new pair is received.

I bought these for one task only: to use on the machines at the gym. The in-ear design provides great noise isolation and gives decent bass response from such a small driver. I sweat on these things whenever they're used and they hold up well to my usage. I wouldn't recommend these for everyday listening if the quality of the music is important, but for the price, these make great commuter or exercise earbuds.

I'm on my second pair of these headphones, and there will not be a third. They sound great, which is why I purchased a second pair after my first crapped out about six months after I bought them for around $100. I figured I just got an unlucky pair and because I was happy with the sound I would buy another that would certainly last longer. No such luck. The second pair, also costing about $100, just died after a little more than a year. I'm now looking for another brand, because I believe such expensive headphones should last longer. Too bad, because I enjoy the sound quality. But the build quality is unacceptable.

I bought a pair when it first came out mainly for use during plane commutes. The in-ear feature takes a bit to adjust to but it works well on the plane and the volume feature is useful. However, when I tried these on while working out, they kept falling off my ears because of outer shape of the heardphone. Sadly, less than a year, the sound was also completely lost in one earphone. I'm a sony worshipper but for the price and the brand, I expected better quality and better fit. I think I'll have to find other brand for my new pair.

The PS-300 earphones are the best kept secret. My husband has Bose. We make comparisons all the time. He has to recharge batteries all the time otherwise his earphones do not work. I do not. My earphones are always ready. What a blessing. The sound on the PS-300 is superior. Don't let anyone tell you different. They just want to make themselves feel better for spending the extra few hundred dollars.

I don't write many reviews, but have had a great experience with the Phiaton PS300 noise-cancelling headphones that I wanted to share with you.

First, I live in New York City and commute by subway every day. I also travel by plane a bit (I have family spread out up and down the East Coast). I was looking for a solid pair of noise-cancelling headphones and not looking to overpay for a name. After doing weeks of research, I decided on the Phiaton PS300s. There have been a ton of great reviews from top Audio publications (do a web search on the PS300 and you'll see), which is what sold me on these.

Now for some specifics....

They do a great job of blocking out the rumble of the subway train and also block out the music of those next to you listening to their music too loud. I also love the fact that they include an extra battery. I always keep the extra charged and in my bag, ready to use. Another great feature of these headphones is that you can use them even if the battery is dead. Most noise-cancelling headphones CANNOT be used if the battery is dead (like the Bose). It's very rare that I've had the battery die on my and not had the spare (I forgot it one or twice charging on my desk at work) and I love the fact that I can still use them to listen to music or watch a video on my iPod.

The headphones also fold up when not in use and come with a carrying case to store them in. This is great for when I'm going out after work, I just fold them up, pop them in the case and drop them in my bag.

Sound quality is great with them, especially with classic rock and hip-hop (I tend to listen to a wide variety of music). They are also extremely light-weight and feel great after being worn for an extended period of time.

I am extremely happy with my purchase of the Phiaton PS300 Noise-Cancelling Headphones.

"Look like Bose QC3 but very different performance" 2009-10-01

These headphones look remarkably like the Bose Quiet Comfort 3 - the earpieces and the removable battery in particular are close to identical.

But performance-wise it is clear that they have completely different internal electronics.

First, the good news. Unlike the QC3, the PS300 will work even if the battery dies.

The PS300 is definitely much better value - they include two rechargeable batteries (a second QC3 battery will cost you an extra $50), they include a worldwide charger (this will add yet another $50 to the QC3 price) and they also include a USB charger (not offered at all with the QC3).

The PS300 also has a hinge where the earcup is attached to the headband, allowing them to fold into a much more compact space than the QC3, making it easier to travel with them.

Now for the not so good news. The main reason for buying noise cancelling headphones is, ummm, to cancel noise. The PS300 does a reasonably good job at this, but the QC3 (and the other Bose headphones and also the Sony MDR-NC500D) are much better at noise cancelling. The difference in noise reduction is immediately obvious.

Sound-wise, the PS300 also disappoints. Bass is muddy, mid-range is too prominent, and high notes, while very clear, can sometimes be strident.

So, what's the bottom line? Dollar wise, these are excellent value headphones, and when compared against the true full cost of a set of QC3s with optional accessories added, you're saving a lot of money with the PS300. But you're losing some noise cancelling and some sound quality.

So if you're seeking a high end 'best of breed' solution, these are not a good choice. But if you're seeking something better than the many sub-$100 headphones, while not wishing to spend as much as top of the line other products, maybe these are a good mid-range compromise.

First of all, they are extremely comfortable, allowing me to wear them for hours without any discomfort whatsoever.

Also, the sound is amazing. The highs are crisp, and the bass is the best out of any of the headphones I own.

Overall, this is a great product. I strongly recommend it to everyone.
